What is an “Ecosystem Water Feature”?
Ecosystem water features rely on bacteria to keep the water clear and balanced. All our ecosystem water features are designed to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. Conventional water features use chemicals like chlorine and bromine to kill all the organisms that try to live in the water. This not only creates a lot of maintenance, but it also makes it dangerous.

How can water features help Florida’s natural ecosystems?
Water Features help Florida’s natural ecosystems in a few ways. Firstly, they add a source of clean, natural, fresh water for wildlife to drink from. Secondly, they can be planted with Florida native plants, which create a food source and habitat for wildlife. Thirdly, they can be used to capture rainwater, which helps to reduce runoff from entering our natural bodies of water.

Should I be worried about my animals and family interacting with the water with bacteria in the water?
Our natural water features are full of bacteria, plankton, invertebrates…LIFE! Just like our stomachs, our water features have a symbiotic relationship with nature, and it encourages LIFE! The key to encouraging beneficial bacteria and discouraging harmful bacteria is oxygen. Our water features are in constant motion, keeping the water rich in oxygen and preventing unhealthy bacteria. If you have a cut, you want to clean it like swimming in a lake.

I just built a new water feature, and it is turning green. I didn’t expect this much green.
All of our water features are living and will form a balanced ecosystem. That process takes time; when a water feature is brand new, it has no biology.
We introduce beneficial bacteria to our systems to start the process.
In the first few weeks or months, the systems can get “new pond syndrome,” the pond ecosystem building and establishing. During this establishing time, the water and rocks can become excessively green. An ecosystem's water features are like wine; they improve with age!
Always remember that this is an ecosystem, so a light “biofilm” or coating is expected on all surfaces exposed to water.

Won’t there be mosquitos with no chemicals?
No! Our systems are constantly moving with recirculating pumping systems. Mosquitos still need stagnant water to reproduce, so their larvae can easily swim to the surface to breathe and then swim to the bottom for protection. Their larvae are weak swimmers and cannot fight the moving water of our systems.
